Recap: It's Now for Nature global business webinar – how to develop a credible nature strategy
“At a time when we see unprecedented destruction of nature, we need to work together to drive the necessary scale and speed of business action to contribute towards a net zero, equitable and nature-positive future. ”
— Eva Zabey, Executive Director, Business for Nature
Every business needs a strategy for nature. But many don’t know where to start. Listen to our business webinar to learn more about how to develop a credible nature strategy.
In this webinar, recorded on 9 November, you will:
- Discover the importance of integrating nature in your business strategy
- Learn how to develop a credible nature strategy
- Understand the benefits of taking action on nature now
We heard directly from companies including BNP Paribas, GSK, Natura&Co and Salesforce who are on their nature journey and shared key insights and first-hand experience of elevating and tackling the issue in their companies.
We also want to thank our excellent moderators, Nicole Schwab from the World Economic Forum and Diane Holdorf from the World Business Council for Sustainable Development.
The main takeaways from the webinar:
-
The journey towards a nature-positive future cannot be undertaken by a single government or company. Collaboration is essential to bring about effective and enduring change – we need more, not less, cooperation to protect and restore nature in line with the Global Biodiversity Framework.
-
Ambitious action on nature goes hand in hand with long-term business performance and resilience, and by setting a nature strategy companies will have a roadmap to reduce negative impacts, boost business resilience, bring new commercial opportunities, create long-term value and strengthen climate and sustainability goals.
-
Consumers, investors, policymakers and other stakeholders are demanding change. It is critical to engage with all stakeholders, including Indigenous Peoples and Local Communities who are important stewards of nature and biodiversity and whose rights we need to protect and acknowledge.
“We assessed the links between economic activity and natural ecosystems and found that an astonishing 55%, or $58 trillion, of global GDP is dependent on nature. ”
— Lynne Barber, Sustainability Partner, PwC
‘It’s Now for Nature’ is a joint global campaign to bring together all businesses to act on nature and contribute towards a nature-positive world by 2030. We hope to encourage businesses and financial institutions to develop and publish a nature strategy to set out how they are addressing the nature crisis, in a public and accessible way, which in turn will help drive accountability
The Nature Strategy Handbook (available in Chinese, French, Japanese, Spanish and Portuguese) provides recommendations for all businesses – whether corporates or financial institutions – on how to set a forward-looking nature strategy and where to find useful tools and resources. The Handbook builds on guidance from the ACT-D High-Level Business Actions on Nature and is aligned with the mission of the Global Biodiversity Framework. The handbook is available in English, Chinese, French, Japanese, Spanish and Portuguese.
“We have over 10 years of data on how companies have been performing on some key aspects of nature and the data clearly tell us that nature is lagging behind action on climate. This year, we had 23,000 companies disclosing their climate performance but only 3,800 disclosed their water performance and only 1,100 on forests.”
— Tom Maddox, Global Director, Forests and Land, CDP
